“Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?” – Mark 4:38.

The disciples thought they were going to drown. The storm that raged upon the Sea of Galilee had overwhelmed them and gripped their sailing vessel in its power. As they leaned upon their own understanding, they concluded that they were goners!

“The waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.” From a merely human perspective, the loss of all life was certain.

The disciples panicked, and so would I. They were powerless against the great storm of wind; they were weak and insufficient – there was nothing they could do. Their own power, strength, and wisdom proved deficient. However, one man on the boat was at peace – sweet, restful, peace. Astonishingly, He wasn’t afraid. He wasn’t panicking. During the storm, He slept. The Carpenter took a power nap, while the fishermen panicked. How is this possible?

Undisturbed rest in the midst of vehement storms is remarkable – it’s a miracle. It’s peace that passes all understanding. It’s supernatural. Peace…

Jesus has it; I want it.

“Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God, and the peace of God which passes all understanding shall guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” – Phil. 4:6-7.

Why was Jesus asleep? He was asleep because He wasn’t afraid. He wasn’t afraid because He possesses the power over the wind and the sea, He can walk on water, in Him all things hold together, and He upholds all things by the word of His power.

Nothing has changed.
