“For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end bee of them that obey not the Gospel of God?” – 1 Peter 4:17

Judgment begins at the house of the LORD.

In Ezekiel, the glory of the Lord God of Israel is seen departing from the Temple before God destroys it and Jerusalem.

In 1 Samuel, Eli’s daughter-in-law called her newborn son Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel” – 4:21, because God had judged His people first, not the Philistines.

In Judges, the great deliverer, Samson, did not know that the Spirit of the Lord “had departed from him” – 16:20, because God judged Samson first, not Delilah.

God is going to judge His house, first. Judgment will begin with His people before He judges those “that obey not the Gospel of God.”

God is going to judge the church before He brings the judgment of the Tribulation Period on the lost world.

When you read the book of Revelation, the 7 churches of Asia Minor are judged. Two churches out of the seven are approved. Five of the seven churches are warned to repent and get right with the Lord. All of this precedes the judgment of Tribulation Period – Revelation 6-19.

During the 2020 elections, the Church stood strong politically but how about spiritually?

There were prayer meetings and national prayer gatherings in Washington D.C., but the prayers for revival across this nation have not been answered… yet!

The least attended meeting in our fellowship is the intercessory prayer meeting for our nation, state, and community. However, this prayer time is well attended by our youth, for which I praise God.

It behooves us not to look at our programs and services but at our intercessory prayer meetings.

The heart of prayer and intercession is lacking, and the nation suffers because the Church does not believe in God’s design for corporate prayer – Acts 2:42.

The first century Church believed in the power of praying to the Lord Jesus Christ and seeking Him as a corporate body – Acts 2:42.

Are we so carnal to believe that God does not work through corporate prayer? If we did believe in God’s design for prayer, wouldn’t we be running to the prayer meeting in our local fellowships?

In the 16th century God judged the Roman Catholic Church exposing its lies, hypocrisy, and corruption. The Holy Spirit used the reformers to protest this corruption and return to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. God didn’t judge the nations; He judged Rome, the papacy, and the Holy Roman clergy.

When our Lord Jesus Christ came riding upon the foal of a donkey, He entered Jerusalem, but He didn’t kick out the Roman governor or his legions from Israel’s eternal capitol. No, He made a whip of chords and drove out the money preachers, the “holy” business men exploiting God’s people, and “righteous” salesmen working for the compromised priests, scribes, and elders of Israel who later murdered Him though it was all according to God’s plan!

God does not play games. God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows that shall he also reap.

God is seriously going to judge the Church, first – Greek “proton” – in sequence. Then, He will judge those who do not obey the Gospel of His grace in Christ.

Perhaps we are seeing a foreshadow of it, now. What impact does the Church have on the present state of affairs?

Judgment “must begin at the house of God.”

Where will you stand when it comes?

Will you stand in His grace, power, and love by faith in Christ and remain the obedient slave of our Lord Jesus?

Or, will you in carnal, selfish pride suffer the humiliation of faithlessness and self-reliance?

Judgment must begin at the house of the Lord.

Perhaps the apostate church predicted in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 will be exposed at the same time of God’s judgment upon His House for each Scripture verse uses the same Greek word “proton” to communicate the word “first” or “in sequence.” It is very interesting.

If you find yourself in a state of lovelessness and prayerlessness, then please do the first works and repent. Go back to your first love – the Lord Jesus. Spend quality time in fellowship with Him, and He will change your heart.

May the Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father give us the grace to love Him, others, stand for His truth, and make disciples.

Judgement beings at the house of the Lord.
